5 fail-safe tips for wearing your hair prosthesis in hot weather
Share
1. Adapt your wig cap: your anti-perspiration ally
The choice of what you put under your hair prosthesis changes everything.
-
The bamboo reflex: Forget nylon or classic cotton that retains moisture. Opt for a wig cap made of bamboo fiber. Naturally thermoregulating, breathable, and incredibly soft for sensitive scalps, it absorbs sweat and prevents your prosthesis from slipping.
-
The cooling gel headband: There are headbands specially designed to hold the prosthesis in place while providing a cooling effect on the forehead and temples. A real treat during heatwaves!
2. Adjust your attachments against the effect of sweat
Sweat is the sworn enemy of adhesives and hair glues. During a heatwave, your attachment routine needs to evolve:
-
Use a Scalp Protector: Applied before glue or tape, it creates a waterproof barrier between your skin and the adhesive. It protects the skin and prevents sweat from dissolving the glue.
-
Switch to Waterproof / Water-resistant adhesive: Opt for adhesive tapes designed for sports or swimming throughout the summer.
Extra tip: Always keep a small roll of emergency adhesive and light cleansing wipes in your bag in case of urgent touch-ups during the day.
3. Style your hair to free your neck
Wearing your hair down over your shoulders at 35°C is a guarantee of getting very hot. Take the opportunity to vary your hairstyles!
-
Braids and messy buns: Gently pull back the lengths. Just be careful not to pull too hard on the wig cap seams to avoid exposing the edges of the prosthesis.
-
Play with accessories: A pretty silk headband or a light scarf tied around your head can keep stray hairs in place, protect the edges of the prosthesis, and give your outfit a very summery style.
4. Pay double attention to your scalp hygiene
In summer, sebum and sweat accumulate faster. To avoid irritation or unpleasant odors:
-
Slightly increase the frequency of washes: Wash your prosthesis a little more often with a suitable mild shampoo (synthetic or natural depending on your model).
-
Take care of your skin: As soon as you remove your prosthesis in the evening, clean your scalp with a soothing alcohol-free lotion, then spray a little fresh thermal water. A real moment of relief!
5. The backup solution: alternate with a Turban or a "Hair Crown"
Nothing obliges you to wear your full prosthesis 24/7 if the temperature becomes unbearable.
To stay at home, go shopping, or go to the beach, consider the hair crown (or half-prosthesis) worn under a straw hat or a light linen turban. You maintain the visual effect of hair around your face while allowing the top of your head to breathe completely!
In summary
Heatwaves just require a little foresight and the right accessories. Don't let the heat prevent you from going out: adapt your equipment, take care of your skin, and most importantly... enjoy your summer!
